They gathered 'round the flag pole,
Half-mast, stars and stripes.
A soldier wounded
Far beyond the medic's care,
A heart of purple.
Parents' silent tears.
Friends tremble in disbelief.
A hero comes home.

The fear he had felt
As he gave the world his all
His sacrifice is our gift
This is sad, Weezer. And there are soooooo many just like your poet's hero. It is a good set of haiku though, very nice. Thank you. We need reminders like this.

FYI, a Houston area home builder with the help of the Bay Area Builder's Association has been building homes for those disabled vets. He has completed and given five so far and has five more under construction. They are $300,000 homes.
Ten is small incomparison to the many who have returned in 'wheel chair' or worse condition. But it is helping these ten families.

Wonderful haiku, my friend!
Wow, sad! We've lost more than our share of soldiers in this nonsense too, and I'm so sick of it.
Heartfelt haiku - well done.
That is just beautiful, what a lovely tribute anyone who has lost a soldier what appreciate these words.
